Tamilnadu Emergency Flood Relief Fund (2015)
The Southern Indian state of TamilNadu was ravaged by unprecedented heavy rains. The monsoons had played havoc. The capital city, many coastal towns and villages were submerged in water. More than 300 people lost their lives and thousands more had to be rescued.
As we go about our normal lives, many people are on their roof tops waiting for the helicopters to deliver food and boats to take them to a safer place.
Given the unprecedented situation, the local ex-pat community in Solihull felt the need to assist local relief efforts and Small-Steps Charity responded by setting up an urgent fundraising appeal which raised £2000. Small-Steps Charity wanted to make a difference to the situation as a matter of urgency. This appeal helped raise £2000 in funds for emergency relief.
Small-Steps Funding:
The money raised was used to buy blankets, clothes, food, drinking water and helped rebuild homes and lives.
In this hour of despair the funds gave hope to the flood affected people of TamilNadu.
Orphanage Support Network
While the floods in Chennai garnered intense media attention, using our local contacts from Solihull, we helped establish a partnership with an orphanage called Uthavam Karangala. Rebuilding after these devestating floods was challenging and Small-Steps funds were used for providing esssential equipment for the school (fans, Tube lights, Tables and chairs)
